Overview
The System Administrator (SA) for Truecount Corporation will be responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure.
This individual participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure. This individual ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational values, enabling staff, volunteers, and partners.
This individual will assist project teams with technical issues in the Initiation and Planning phases. These activities include the definition of needs, benefits, and technical strategy; research & development within the project life-cycle; technical analysis and design; and support of operations staff in executing, testing and rolling-out the solutions. Participation on projects is focused on smoothing the transition of projects from development staff to production staff by performing operations activities within the project life-cycle.
This individual is accountable for the various Windows systems that support Truecount solutions.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities on these systems include SA engineering and provisioning, operations and support, maintenance and research and development to ensure continual innovation.
SA Engineering and Provisioning
- Engineering of SA-related solutions for various project and operational needs.
- Install new / rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
- Install and configure systems such as supports Truecount infrastructure applications
- Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures.
- Contribute to and maintain system standards.
- Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.
Operations and Support
- Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
- Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.
- Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary.
- Perform regular file archival and purge as necessary.
- Create, change, and delete user accounts per request.
- Provide Tier 1 and other support per request from various constituencies. Investigate and troubleshoot issues.
- Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted constituencies.
Maintenance
- Extensive experience in setup, installation, configuration and management of Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista, Windows 7, DNS Server, Domain Controller, Small Business VPN solution, SQL Server 2008, IIS, BizTalk Server 2009 and BizTalk RFID Server 2009
- Experience in managing hosted JIRA configuration and local SVN
- In-depth knowledge of Windows servers and desktop products.
- Knowledge of setting up remote access for users.
- Ability to set-up/configure/support firewalls.
- Ability to support networked printers
- Working knowledge of current communications devices and protocols, server and desktop technologies.
- Ability to negotiate hardware/software service and technical support contracts with vendors.

- Ability to quickly grasp and understand technical concepts and systems.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills but not an ‘office politician’.
- Work well under pressure, has the ability to work within tight timelines and to collaborate across teams to achieve outstanding results.
- Ability to work independently and within a fast-packed start-up environment.
- Excellent problem solving skills.
Qualifications:
- 4+ Years of system administration experience.
Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline or equivalent education and experience. It’s more about your attitude and experience versus what school you went to! - Considerable (4+ years) and current experience as an Administrator on a medium sized network of servers, desktop systems and communications devices using current technologies
- Systems Administration/System Engineer certification in Microsoft is preferred.
